Common scams in Pakistan
Fake BISP or Benazir messages
"Your name is in the 25,000 imdad list, send a fee to claim it." BISP messages come only from 8171, and BISP says never to pay anyone a fee.
Fake e-challan links
A message says you have an unpaid traffic challan and links to a look-alike site. Check challans only on the official police or Safe City portal for your city.
Prize and lucky draw messages
"Congratulations, you won Rs 50,000", followed by a request for a fee, your CNIC or the code you just received.
Fake job offers
Easy daily earnings or a government job in return for a "joining" or processing fee. Real government jobs are advertised through the public service commissions.
Courier and customs fees
A parcel is "held at customs" until you pay a small fee through a link. Check with the courier on its own website.
