Pakistan OS answers questions about Pakistani government services. You can use it without an account, and we collect as little as we can. This page explains what we keep, why, and how to remove it.

The short version

  • You don't need an account. Without one, your chats stay in your own browser.
  • CNIC, phone, passport, bank and card numbers and email addresses are removed from your questions before they leave your browser.
  • Your questions are sent to Google's Gemini AI to write the answer.
  • We never ask for passwords to government websites and can't see your government records.
  • We don't sell your data or show ads.
  • If you have an account, you can delete your chats, memory or whole account at any time.

If you use Pakistan OS without an account

  • Chat history, settings and your saved location are kept in your browser's storage on your device, not on our servers. Clearing your browser data removes them.
  • Your questions (with personal numbers removed) are processed on our servers to find official sources and write an answer. We don't link them to you.
  • Your location is used only if you choose to share it, to show the nearest offices, and is not stored on our servers.

If you create an account

  • Account details: your email address, name and profile photo (from Google sign-in), handled by Google Firebase Authentication.
  • Preferences: answer language, province, city and the settings you choose.
  • Chat history, if you turn on sync, so it appears on all your devices.
  • Memory, if turned on: short facts you mention (such as your city or that you're renewing a passport) so answers fit you. You can see, edit and delete each one under Account → Memory, or turn memory off.
  • Reminders you set, such as a CNIC or passport expiry date.

Other things we keep

  • Shared chats: when you share a chat, a copy (with personal numbers removed) is stored so anyone with the link can read it. Shared pages are hidden from search engines.
  • Feedback and suggestions you send (“not helpful”, reports, missing services), to improve answers.
  • Unanswered questions: when we find no official source, we keep the question text (with personal numbers removed) and a count, so we know which services to add.
  • Popular questions: anonymous counts of common topics, used for the suggestions on the home page.
  • Answer cache: answers to common general questions are saved for up to 12 hours so repeat questions are fast. Questions using your location or memory are never cached.
  • Security: your IP address is used briefly to limit how many requests one connection can make, to protect the service from abuse. It is not stored with your questions.

Services we use

These companies process data on our behalf, only to run Pakistan OS:

  • Google Gemini API: writes answers, reads text aloud and turns voice into text. Your question, the official sources found and, for voice, your recording are sent to it. On Google's paid service, Google does not use this data to train its models.
  • Google Firebase Authentication: sign-in, if you create an account.
  • MongoDB Atlas: our database (account data, shared chats, feedback).
  • Vercel: hosts the website.
  • Upstash: short-lived counters for rate limits and the answer cache.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile: checks that a visitor is a person, not a bot.
  • Google Analytics: counts visits and which pages are viewed. It does not receive your questions or answers. You can block it with a browser extension or Google's opt-out add-on.

Some of these services store data outside Pakistan, mainly in the United States.

How long we keep it

  • Account data, synced chats, memory and reminders: until you delete them or your account.
  • Shared chats: until you ask us to remove them. They aren't linked to your account, so deleting your account doesn't remove them.
  • Cached answers: up to 12 hours.
  • Feedback, suggestions and unanswered questions: as long as they help us improve the service.

Your choices

  • Delete all chats or your whole account under Account → Security. Deleting your account removes your profile, synced chats, memory and reminders.
  • Turn memory or chat sync off at any time in your account settings.
  • Without an account, clear your browser's site data to remove everything stored on your device.
  • For anything else, such as removing a shared chat, contact us through the feedback form.

Children

Pakistan OS is a general information service. Accounts are meant for people aged 13 and over; younger users should use it without an account, with a parent or guardian.

Changes to this policy
