On motorways and national highways, traffic offences are handled by the National Highways & Motorway Police under the National Highways Safety Ordinance 2000. An officer issues a charge sheet (ticket) stating the fine; you can pay it within ten days as stated on the citation paper. If you don't pay, your licence or registration is taken and the case goes to court. Points are also added to your record. NHMP publishes fines such as Rs. 2,500 for over-speeding in a car.

- 1Keep your copy of the charge sheet; it states the fine and how to pay it.چارج شیٹ کی اپنی کاپی سنبھال کر رکھیں؛ اس پر جرمانے کی رقم اور ادائیگی کا طریقہ درج ہوتا ہے۔
- 2If you accept the charge, pay the fine within ten days in the manner given on the citation paper and keep the receipt.اگر آپ الزام تسلیم کرتے ہیں تو دس دن کے اندر چالان پر درج طریقے سے جرمانہ ادا کریں اور رسید محفوظ رکھیں۔

Good to know
- • If the fine is not paid within ten days, the officer takes the registration or licence into custody and files a complaint in court (NHSO 2000, section 79).
- • Point system: when points exceed 10 within two years you get a warning; when they exceed 20 within two years your licence is suspended for six months, extendable by another six months (section 86).
- • Examples of points (Eleventh Schedule): red light 6; speeding more than 40 km/h over the limit 6; dangerous overtaking 6; reckless driving 6; driving under the influence 8.
- • Police may arrest without warrant for, among others, driving 30% or more above the speed limit, reckless or drunk driving, or failing to stop when directed (section 81).
- • Fine amounts above are from NHMP's "revised fines" infographic (خلاف ورزیوں کے نظرثانی شدہ جرمانے) and its "Fine amounts for traffic violations" infographic on nhmp.gov.pk. Neither is dated, so amounts may have changed; your charge sheet states the fine that applies.
- • NHMP says these fines "are not applicable to provincial highways and roads within municipal limits of towns and cities".
- • For mobile phone use in a car, the two NHMP infographics differ (Rs. 500 vs Rs. 2,000), so that amount is not listed.
- • Payment channels: the NHMP website does not publish how to pay a ticket (no e-payment, bank list or PSID page was found). The law says to pay "in the manner specified in the citation paper", so follow the payment instructions printed on your ticket; for help call 130.
